Almost everyone could use a few extra bucks in their checking account, am I right? Luckily, in our world today, there are tons of opportunities to earn extra money quickly. Let’s consider just a few of the options available to us.

1. Have a Garage/Yard Sale

Most of us have a bunch of random stuff in our house that we haven’t used in years, but have still held on to for some unknown reason. If you are looking for some extra cash and are also in the mood to de-clutter your living space, consider having a garage/yard sale for all those things you’re not using anymore.

Whether it’s an old set of golf clubs, a bike, kids’ toys, retro games, or antiques, having a sale could be one of the fastest ways to get cash in your hand. Who knows what may be laying in the recesses of your home that could turn into a few extra hundred dollars or more? A garage/yard sale can be an effective way to earn extra money.

2. Start Driving for Uber or Lyft

The gig economy has a lot of earnings potential available. Companies like Uber and Lyft have changed the transportation game and offer easy ways of earning extra money with weekly payouts.

It usually takes a couple of days for the background check process to complete, but within 2-3 days, you can be on the road giving rides and getting paid. If you’re a road warrior, consider doing some rideshare and put your love of driving to work! I drove for Lyft a few years ago when I was between jobs and it helped us make it through.

3. Watch Kids

If you’re good with kids, childcare can be a rather lucrative side hustle! Care.com estimates that in the Virginia Beach area, a babysitter can earn about $14 as a fair wage. If you have lots of experience watching kids, or are watching several, you may even be able to earn more!

If childcare is your go-to choice for extra work, take a look at your local babysitting Facebook page and Care.com to see what families can use your service! Childcare can be a very lucrative way to earn extra money.

4. Deliver Pizzas

Okay, I know it sounds like a high school or college-level job, and a lot of the time it is. But if you really need some extra cash, would it be so bad to go out a few nights a week and do some delivery?

If you do excellent pizza delivery, greet each customer with enthusiasm and a smile, and maybe even have a few treats for your customer’s dog, you could easily add another $500-1000 to your monthly budget!

5. Get Overtime at Your Full-Time Job

Ask your supervisor if there is any extra work that needs to be done and volunteer to do some overtime hours. Most time beyond your standard 40 hour workweek is paid higher than your hourly rate (unless you are salaried in some cases).

One of the advantages of getting overtime at your regular job is that there’s no extra commute (at least a good amount of the time)! You’re right there and can just keep working right on through past the end of your regular shift and let that overtime pay rack up.
